Inauguration

So...did everyone watch the inauguration, or were most of you in mourning?

For about 1/2 hour I was wishing I wasn't at work. At noon the "Boss" make an announcement that if anyone wanted to listen to it we could put it on the phones. So all the phones, and most of the computers had it running. I wanted to run and hide, but instead I just continued to work. But people were "so excited". I JUST DON'T GET IT!

While I didn't vote for this president I'm happy that the other one is gone! I did not watch or listen to any of the inauguration beyond a few minutes of the 6:00 news. Yes, I actually got home in time to see it!

I still just do not understand how everyone is so flippin gaga over this dude. I want to like him, I really do....I think his family is so cute lol. But....ughhh I can't go into it. Im just so tired of it. I don't know..

Innaguration, I thought it was a Coronation. Best thing I heard today was how Obama was going to walk across the Potomic.

While he is providing hope, I do not believe it will be too long for reality to set in. Most of the people who created the problem are still there, Dodd, Franks, Kennedy, Pelosi.....

The inauguration speech did not contain any resounding sound bites, but I thought that, overall, he gave a good, solid message. I was pleased that he included non-believers in his list of religious groups in the nation. I would have been much happier without any religious reference, including the padres up there. So much for separation of church and state. (My point underscores why we have trouble accepting our leaders: we all have our pet opinions and if anyone disagrees with them we shut them out... disapprove of them. Obama smokes cigarettes and is religious. But, despite that, I'll support him until he does something really really stupid. I defended Bush, despite disagreeing with him on most things, until the past two years.)

Remember, all the saviour stuff is media generated and a lot of it is right-wing mockery. Mr. Obama has not said such things about himself, nor, that I have seen, implied it. I agree hat the glow has now started to wear off; we have to see what our government can accomplish: all of them, not just the new president... Democrat and Republican.

I watched at work and pointed out after the ceremony that his message of self-responsibility apparently had not moved everyone in the enormous crowd: the ground was filled with litter! That was in the from, where I presume many people were dignitaries or celebrities.

I dont know Uncle Chris....people are so in love with this guy, even if he screws up royally, I don't see people picking up on it and turning on him. In fact, Im quite sure that whatever he may do that has an unfavorable outcome, people will just blame Bush for leaving such a mess.

So on Saturday, here in Nanuet, there were those anti war protesters. There was a sign that said "The are 30 million hungry people across the world. Thank you Mr. Bush". So....what hasn't Bush done? He is the cause of all horrible things apparantly. Just like when David Blaine's illusion flopped, he blamed Bush, no lie.

I saw some of it and liked some of his statements, however, I did not like the Bush bashing (obvious or indirect).

I saw on MSN that there's going to be a stage musical called "Obama on my mind". And I throught the coin was bad. To quote Deanna, "ughhh"!

I agree with John. I think the media has built Obama up so much that listening to them, he sounds like the second coming. My comment to everyone here was: are all of these people really that excited about Obama, or just glad to see Bush out of there? I kind of felt bad for "W", who had to sit there while he was tactfully lambasted.

I though Obama's speech was good because he didn't make a lot of lofty promises, just set out goals, but cautioned that everyone will have to pitch in to reach them.

On a lighter note, I like the fact that he and his wife both sang the national anthem right out loud (at least it looked like they did). Usually these people just sort of look like they are mumbling. They seem to enjoy music, and while that's not exactly a criterion for running a country, I find it somewhat endearing.

Tina, you mention "the second coming". I've been calling him the anti christ for a while now! Okay, I think he's articulate and all but I also don't see what all the fervor is over him. I think it's mainly centered around the fact that he's of color and that's a major deal. If the new president was a woman we might be seeing the same reaction. I read the entire speech this morning and found it moving. Let's see if people take it to heart. I don't expect much to happen in the next couple of years at least as there are just too many problems to try to solve. We'll see.

Please do not get me wrong. I hope Obama succeeds, if he doesn't then we are all screwed.

From what I saw last night on T.V. he is saying all the right things to start. Politely telling the world, we are here to work with you to solves problems, but if you screw with us you will be sorry.

Obama has also issued pay freezes for whitehouse staff and put limits on lobyist interactions at the whitehouse.

It will be interesting to see how the Lefties deal with him moving forward as I am guessing that they will not be happy with him more than the folks on the right.

I agree with most of the comments, especially Chris and John. If he's been just spouting rhetoric, not only will his image quickly sink, but the country (and world) will be ripe for depression and probably more war.

Bush can be blamed for everything, just as Clinton was blamed before him. But it's not just them - it's Congress - both sides of the aisle. Why didn't 8 years of Reagonomics save us? Where were the entrepeneurs and inventors? They were all getting MBAs to feed from the trough - which is now empty. Of course, it was the liberals and there agenda, preventing it from working. I don't think so.

I think Obama (and McCain) realize that drastic messures are needed to stimulate the economy - though I don't think it can be done by giving taxpayers a $600 rebate. Despite the fact we're in a war - it is not conventional - we should transfer money from building submarines (sorry EB - try retooling) to repairing, updating, and even replacing the transportation and energy infrastructure.

I did watch the speech. It was nothing new, but had good resolve and sincerity. I hope he freezes Congresses wages, as well, and maybe ask for givebacks - based on lower tax revenue.

Deanna, after AA? You in Alcoholics Anonymous?

Deanna said...

Oh my gosh lol. No AA meant Aunt Annie.

And also, yes Congress's wages should be frozen. But they already gave themselves a raise about a month or two ago, as a cost of living adjustment. What the hell ever. They don't deserve half of what they make.

Back to Patty's comment about the Antichrist. I'm reading about the discontent prior to our revolution. During the last of the French/British wars one reason the mostly Protestant New Englanders wanted to attack the French at Louisburg (Cape Breton Island) was because they were Popists - "the Antichrist".
