Jim Anastasio called last night and told me his younger son Kevin was selected to represent the US in the Holland Youth Games this summer, playing baseball. Quite an honor. Just as Sara represents (in a way) the US in Peru, Kevin will represent (Sportsambassadors.org) the US amidst 27 countries participating in the games. Last I heard the US was butting heads with Europe over Israel's attack on Gaza. How would you feel about yourself or your kid being an de facto ambassador of the US at this time?
For the most part I was comfortable when I was overseas - times were a little different then, but we still had a lot of people questioning US policies. Like they all said, "like Americans, hate America and her policies."

I never felt that we were disliked as Americans when we were in France. We were treated well every place we went. In fact, the young man at the register of the book store at Versailles was excited to talk to us about the politics and the upcoming election in the states at that time. He wants to come to the US. I don't think you can ever tell how you're going to be received in a foreign country.
Well, we have not heard from Sara since she arrived in Peru. I purposefully don't worry. If I let myself imagine the stuff that might happen, then I'm as bad as Mom. Peru is not the most stable country in the world, ya know.
Congrats to Jimmy's son. That sounds a whole lot more official than Sara's gig. However, she did get two As and three Bs last semester: an improvement over her first two years grades.
I am feeling better, but those illnesses took a lot out of me. I'll be weeks yet, recovering.
Isn't there any way to contact Sara through the school or something? It seems strange that you can't get in touch with her. I don't like to worry at the level Mom does either.
We have a tenuous connection through email. We can call, but the international rates are outrageous. We'll call if necessary.
She sent an email the other day and alll is well. She has the best/easiest of the projects down there. They're going to Machu Pichu this week.
I'm glad you were able to get in touch with Sara and she's doing well.
