For those of you who don't know, I started Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago. The program is pretty easy to follow cause I can eat/drink what I want, I just have to count points. I'm allowed 21 points a day and the plan allows for an additional 35 points per week. I've only had to dip into those extra points 2 times and only for about 2 points. They don't roll over, but I figure I can use them for wine. At 2 points per 4 oz glass, that's 17 glasses a week! Just kidding. Any wine I've had has been taken from the 21, as I can figure that in to my daily points use. Accept of course when I get together with Karen!
I was a little bummed last week cause I followed the plan to the letter and GAINED 2 oz. However, I was bloated (you know) and they said that was the cause.
Anyway, if anyone's interested I'll use this blog to track my progress.

Definitely keep us (or at least me) posted! Bill and I were considering starting Weight Watchers because Travelers is offering a deal where you get a discount on the membership and if you lose a certain percentage of your weight in a certain amount of time you get your membership fee back. A bunch of the girls started it at work so we'll see how they do. The only positive thing I can say about my weight at the moment is that I haven't GAINED any since Thanksgiving! I still would like to lose 10 pounds by Valentine's day but I don't think that's going to happen. We'll see!
Are you doing to online version or going to meetings?
Hi there,I hope this finally worked. Kudos to Annie. If it does work I will blog my doings at a later date.
Rosey, how's Curves going? Are you being faithful? Have you had any luck losing weight with it? Where is the Curves you go to? I might decide to re-join and maybe we could meet up a couple of nights a week at yours (on my way home from work).
I've lost abut ten pounds, but it probably all muscle, as I have not been exercising since early December.
Great job Annie. Everyone else, let's get healthy!
Supper time now: have to run.
Was that John or Kathy who lost 10 lbs?
Glad to hear everyone is trying to lose weight, and hopefully cut down on the wine. I haven't started any kind of program, and haven't really changed my diet, but since I started with the Wii Fit, I've actually gained about 8 pounds! And I'm sure it's not muscle. But there's something else going on gynecologically that I'm hoping to find out about next week, and I also hope to find out if it's causing the weight gain. Just can't win...
Annamarie - I'd love to hear about your progress...GO ANNIE!!
Tina
You go girl(s). Will Power. That's the ticket, and a little less wine. Me, I lost weight since my last physical (last Jan), but I'm dieting, too, to lower my cholesterol and blood pressure. Cutting down on beer for one, hope to cut down my meat portions, and exercise more - I love snow shoveling on days like today.
I'm glad everyone is on a health kick - we all are getting older and need to watch ourselves. I myself got back to the gym and have been going at least four times a week and am trying to watch what I eat. I have to learn portion control. Tina, what kind or gyno problem? I think some of my weight gain is because of starting menopausea and all that hormone crap. Keep us posted.
Karen
Boy we sound like a bunch of old fat farts. I'm not pointing fingers, just making an observation. Of course I have decided that I am an old fat fart. Anyway, I have been going to Curves. My schedule is to go Mon, Wed, Fri. Through the holidays they closed early Wed and didn't open until the following Monday. So I was only getting 1-2 days a week. Last week I went the 3 days, but then today they closed for MLK; who knew. I haven't been weighed or measured since I started but considering I do see any difference in my clothes as of yet, I am aleady getting a little bummed. Annie gave me her Weight Watchers guides to try to eat better, but honestly I didn't think I have been eating too badly. Yes, of course the wine is probably doing me in so I am trying to at least cut down. As with everyone else, keep you posted.
Tina, hope your gynecological matter isn't anything serious. I think it's in our genes to be pleasantly plump so let's not get too down on ourselves. The key is to watch the fat intake, get some exercise, and think positive thoughts. Forget giving up the wine though - I need that! Okay - I don't mean that in an "AA" kind of "needing" it's just that it's what I use to relax when I get home from work. 1 or 2 small glasses - that's it.
It's a slow start. Had my weight in and meeting this afternoon and I only lost 1/2 lb. Oh well, better than nothing! I'm not gonna get discouraged and give up.
Annie - 1/2 pound is good. You don't want to lose too much too soon. And as far as the wine goes...I know I sound like a temperance lecturer, but even 2 glasses per day is too much. All the recommendations I see for women is 1 per day.
The gyno thing is most likely due to menopause, but my doctor said it's unusual. You guys can ignore the rest of this.
Instead of having a long time between periods (which I've also had), or really heavy or light ones, I've been having light to heavy spotting almost daily for about 3 months now. She said that's not "normal", so I'm having an ultrasound and endometrial biopsy next week. I'll let you know the results. My guess is that I'll end up needing a D&C.
Tina
The D&C sounds like a good guess. Did she say anything about endometriosis?
Nothing yet. I'm sure she's waiting for the test results, and I haven't even had the tests yet. We'll see...
Tina
Again, hope it's nothing serious. I've been having a really heavy day during my period. Like I have to change my tampon every hour and wear a pad on top of it. that never happened to me before in my life so it's probably pre-menopause too. i don't think it's worth mentioning to the doctor right now. i'll have my annual exam in April so i'll bring it up there. i'm on the pill though so i wonder if i should give him a call. what do you think?
Patty - I think you can probably wait until your appointment, unless it doesn't stop. Dave was "joking" about waiting until the flow gets so heavy you think you're hemhorraging. Funny guy. I think Rosey had that problem a few years ago. Isn't it fun to be a girl?
Tina
Well, I guess I really didn't need to catch up with this post! I (jb) hope all is well with each of you and your plumbing. It is much more fun being a guy, and easier too. I've recognized this for years. It is why we are, generally, happier than the women folk. Okay, I've said enough.
Despite the warning I read all the comments. What is a D&C?
I think a D&C is like removing tissue or something. I believe it is done after a woman miscarries and I almost want to say its the procedure they use to do abortions too.
But I dunno, Im no doctor. I only watch them on TV. :)
D&C is basically where they clean you out in there; sort of like Roto Rooter, Sorry Teen
It's okay, Rosey. I know what it is. D&C is dilation & curretage (sp?), which is basically scraping out a layer of the endometrium. Deanna is right, it is used to clean up after miscarriage and is used for abortion. Also used when medically necessary for other reasons (which I may find out soon...).
Tina
After 3 weeks on WW I've lost a whopping 1.6 lbs. Again, better than nothing. To take a quote from my favorite book, "Hold fast, stand firm, soldier on".
I feel your pain, but as you say you have to trudge on. I'm doing the same. I'm waiting for my doctor's appointment next week to get weighed. Not looking forward to it.
Annie - that's good! What book is that quote from?
Tina
Good job Annie. I've been going to the gym at least 4 times a week this month and I don't feel any better.
Karen
Wow Aunt Karen!!! Good for you.
When Im finally back in town, maybe I can meet you once in a while.
Aunt Annie, is the book Wheel of Fortune? Or a Prayer for Owen Meeney? I'm just guessing. I know they are your favorite books, well at least the 1st one, but just had a flashback of you saying you like the second one too I think lol
Actually, I think it originated in John Buchan's "The 39 Steps", however my reference to it was from "The Wheel of Fortune" by Susan Howatch. I think I've read it about 20 times. Actually it's almost time for another read.
Very good Deanna!
Keep it up everyone! I haven't lost any weight and may have even gained a little since, with the weather, I haven't even been walking the dog. Bill of course has lost about 8 lbs. but he's been watching what he eats and walking on the treadmill. Once again if I could get my fat butt home from work before 7:00 maybe I would have the time (and energy) to do something!
Week 4 Total Loss = 2.2lbs
Went to the doctor today and got weighed. Lost 3# from my weigh-in at Curves on 12/3/08. My blood pressue is still okay without meds, 120/90. She says its okay. If I continue to lose weight and exercise that should keep the BP in check.
Annie - sounds like you're doing a good job. Keep it up!
Rosey - you, too.
Tina
